I received a Tweet this week announcing Mozilla Lab’s Ubiquity. It’s being called a concept now. That’s tech speak for not much functionality right now. What’s already there is amazing!
It’s an add-on for Firefox. You’re not using Firefox yet? C’mon, I’ve written at least two posts telling you why you should to move to Firefox. This will convince you to take the time to learn something new.
Remember Control-Space .. that’s how you activate the grey box that allows you to access services like the weather, embed Google Maps into your e-mail message, look for a restaurant review.
They/re calling it a mashup. In plain English, that means you’re able to easily add information, links, graphics from several sources without leaving the application you’re using.
Check out their announcement. Be sure to click on the video. (it looks like an audio link).
Even though it’s in beta, it’s stable enough to install the addon. You’ll need a GMail account to be able to embed the information in a message. They have plans to expand support as they go along.
Try it out. Comment on how you’re using it. Is this as big a step forward in computing as I think it is?
